10-12 minute lecture on technology

Hi
I need to audio-record a 10-12 minute mini lecture on a topic related to technology as a listening test for about 1000 international students spread across the UK. I'm looking for ideas for a topic - I was thinking about how technology trickles down, for example in cycling, but that might be a bit too obscure for our students.
Any ideas or current tech news stuff will be gratefully received.

Go look at what NASA has achieved.... http://spinoff.nasa.gov/Spinoff2008/tech_benefits.html might help... literally trickled 'down'
