Downtube Protection

Hi,
I would like to protect the downtube from the normal stone chips etc so I bought some 3M helicopter tape. This evening I tried to apply it but due to its width and the shape of the downtube of my Trance 650b, the tape would not sit properly even though I hated the tape up to make it more sticky.
When I demo'd a few Specialized bikes they all had a tape of some kind on them that had cuts down the sides so the tape sat properly so im guessing there maybe a company that does them?
Apart from the obvious and make my own cuts in the tape, are there companies that provide specific downtube protector tape?
Thanks
Gavin

I've got Bike Shield for mine. Completely clear so you will barely see it.

His point is that it isnt really necessary. If, however, you deem it essential, why not buy a mudguard like the Mucky Nutz Crud Catcher and kill two birds with one stone - clean/non-chipped downtube and no mud in your eyes.0
