Chain fail

4 days into commuting, and my chain fails.
I will buy a new one today at my local halfords, but unsure which to get?
All I can tell you about the gears is that it is a 7 speed, with shimano shifters, Tiagra rear derailleur, triple front derailleur and truvativ replacement triple crank 48/38/28 (yes I have copied this from the advert  )
Are either of these correct?

Either will be fine, be sure you have a chain tool for cutting to length (see Sheldon Brown or Parktools websites for how to size it) and joining it (or use a powerlink).Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Don't buy Shimano - buy KMC way better, smoother, long lasting and connect via a quick link instead of a grotty little pin.0

Just be aware (depending on the age of your chain and cassette) that if the chain was worn you may find a new chain jumps on your cassette. If this happens the only realistic viable option will be to also replace cassette.Regards

If the rest of the chain is undamaged just remove the broken link so you have an inner link at each end and rejoin it using a KMC missing link or similar.0
