Bryton Rider 21

Seems a bargain at £69 in the sales, any reason not to buy it?
Seems to have what i want - decent display, barometer and the ability to put my data onto the likes of Strava and Endomondo.
Anyone recommend any better buys at a similar level of unit?

Link? You can get the 20 for the same price with a heart rate monitor.

(Actually it's now a fiver less! Note Merlin charge £20 more for the same computer without the HRM......)
The 20 has a more chaotic display which I rather like. The 21 gives you barometric altitude (which may be a good thing or a bad thing), a more ordered display and a backlight.
The barometer only really matters if you want to see that info on the ride - once uploaded to Strava the altitude is calculated from the elevation map. It is not necessarily a good thing to have it as, certainly on the 20, the display is set up so that you have to cycle through each parameter on each part of the screen to get back to the beginning - the more parameters the more button presses. But, it looks like the 21 might be a bit more flexible there.
They are all nice little units - really compact; barely larger than a conventional computer.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Anyone know if this uses the same mount as the Bryton 50? Quite tempted by this smaller unit as rarely use the mapping on my Rider 50, but got 2 x 3d printed 'out in front' mounts for my Rider 50 for Xmas and couldn't justify getting more different ones!Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0

Yeah noticed the 20 with the HRM at the same price, but reading reviews is seems the 21 is slightly easier to navigate, and I can't really see myself using the HRM, so the Barometer could be more interesting - though again I agree with your point that its far from essential.
Hmmm, decisions, decisions... Suppose the HRM could be a good training aid that ive not tried yet.http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0 -
They'll both be good. It depends a bit on how fussy you are about what you see on screen while riding. I just set mine so that I have speed, distance and either elapsed time or clock time That's all I want on the commute- it's refreshingly unfussy but then I'm also used to the more flexible screens of the bigger units. If I didn't have a 40 for longer rides I suspect I would prefer a 21 but then the HRM is a useful tool (or would be if I used it properly). Of course, given that Wiggle charges £45 for the belt alone, effectively you are getting the computer for £20 which makes it difficult to justify not buying!Luv2ride wrote:Anyone know if this uses the same mount as the Bryton 50? Nope - unfortunately, the 50 predated the twist off mounts and instead has a sideways clip in mount. Do you really need the barfly type mounts?Faster than a tent.......0 -
Good point about the big saving on the HRM... hmmm, just don't know if I will use it. Same with the Barometer I suppose, in which case should just buy the cheaper of the two (HRM included)!http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0

Shame the mounts differ. I do like the 'out in front' mounts I got for Christmas though so for that reason I'll keep using the Bryton rider 50 instead (it's been faultless during the 18 months of regular use I've had from it so far). That was a great deal from Merlin though!Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...0 -
If you want a cheap out front mount for the 20/21/35/40 twist Brytons - then these work:

Can anyone confirm if the Bryton 50 includes maps for Europe?http://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0
