What are the best mudguards (front and back) for a 29er?

  • An XL MuckyNutz Bender Fender stays on the front of mine, keeps most sh!t off my face, and tbh for the back i dont bother because your going to get wet anyway, if you really are worried about it a MuckyNutz ButtFender is an option, never tried it though but might be worth a look :)

I use a butt fender, makes a lot of difference on my 26er (30" inseam), I guess wheelsize and saddle position will affect its effectiveness.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

As mentioned, Fender Bender up front, and Mucky Nutz have released a great rear fender recently too. They're light, effective and decent aesthetically.

If you have a full susser you can use a Fender Bender again on the rear - also works with some HT frames to protect front mech/seatpost.

Mudhugger do a good front guard for a 29er and they have a 29er rear one coming very soon.

Its moulded rather than being a flat sheet of plastic the extra cost will be because of the tooling required. Wouldnt exactly call £18 expensive though its only twice the price for what is a much much better guard. I have a muckynutz benderfender but will be buying the mudhugger front and rear very soon.

The Fender Benders are extremely well reviewed, well proven and well-liked by pretty much everyone, I don't see why spending more than twice the price is necessary? I don't want to turn this into a debate over a mudguard, but I just cant get my head around that! (Perhaps due to being a Uni student and so being damn near flat broke constantly!) :p

You like the fenderbender but I dont rate it for a 29er though it worked fine when it was on my 26er but it just doesnt work very well on bigger wheels. They might do a specific 29er version but the normal version just doesnt cover enough tyre on big wheels.

What sort of blouse do mudguards come with these days...... kidding!!!!

I quite like Crud's stuff, their racepac is good and there is a 29er specific version

Bender fender at the very front to keep mud off the light, Crud guards under the downtube and at the back. With a bit of careful modification to the bracket it's possible to get the crud rear much lower so that it works better

The Mudhuggers are doing really well in the reviews. Rear won MBR test and Enduro Magazine design award (despite the 'clogging' sceptics!) but 29er rear not quite available yet.
