Have a few bits knocking around so I have decided to build myself a winter bike. Nothing fancy, just made from bits I already own, I just need to buy a headset. The ceramic rims will fend off all the winter grit and I have kept the drivetrain relatively modest so I won't worry about replacement costs when the weather takes it's toll.

bike project.
Frame: White aluminium 7005 54cm
Forks: Easton EC 90 sl
Headset: Token Omega a1
Bars: Planet X Nanolight carbon compact white 44cm
Stem: Ritchey WCS 4 Axis white 90mm
Bar tape: Gel textured black
Seat clamp: black cnc
Seat post: Titanium inline 27.2mm
Saddle: Fizik Arione leather Ti rail

Brakes: TRP 920sl Ti + ceramic rim specific pads
Sti levers: Shimano 105 5600 10 spd
F/mech: Shimano Dura-Ace 7800 band on
R/mech: Shimano Ultegra 6600 SL 10spd
Cassette: Tiagra 4600 10spd 12/28
Cranks: Truvativ Elita compact GXP
Bottom bracket: Ceramic GXP compatible
Chainrings: FSA cnc 50/34
Chain: SRAM PC 1031 10 spd
Pedals: Bebop Stainless steel axle
Cables: Transfil Flying Snake outer, Kcnc ferrules, Shimano stainless inners, Middleburn oilers.

Wheels: Mavic Open Pro Ceramic, Novatec hubs, ACI DB spokes, black brass nipples, tubeless conversion
Tyres: Hutchinson Fusion Tubeless 23mm inc Stans fluid
Qr's: X-lite camlock titanium
Valve caps: Token cnc black

Weight : 18.9lbs inc pedals.

Extras: Crud racer mudguards, Garmin 500, Elite bottle cage.
Any ideas on decals or decoration will be welcome, was gonna call it "B@stard Winter" but it may prove controversial.

Exact same frame as this minus the forks and decals.

Looks like a good set up. The only thing I'd caution against is the ceramic GXP BB. In my experience they are made from cheese; poor seals allow all the muck in and then the steel races corrode and fail very quickly. I got about 3,000km out of my last one. You would be better off with something like a Hope BB that's properly sealed if this is for winter.

It's not the SRAM bb I'm using , it's an aftermarket one from the Far East which will last much longer than a stainless hope bb. I agree that the SRAM/Truvativ bb's are terrible although race face beat them to the title of worst bb's ever.

So true. I had a Raceface BB last one ride back in 2005. Shockingly unbelievable.

  • To be fair the to ceramic gxp bb from SRAM they don't claim to be sealed, they claim to be fast. They come with grease that is to be reapplied after every wet ride.

That said the one in the pompino is still going really strong despite horrendous a use and neglect.
