A strange thing happened today

Part of my regular commute involves crossing a busy unrestricted dual carriageway (A27 if you know the road) I've been crossing at the same place for 4 years, it's a fast section but normally it's not too long a wait before I can cross the first two lanes to the central reservation but today I timed it wrong and was caught by both lanes full of slowish traffic, caused by a Police traffic car up front which no one wanted to overtake. I resigned myself to a long wait, the traffic stretched back as far as I could see, but then the driver of a minibus in the first lane started to slow and came to a halt indicating for me to cross! I cautiously crossed in front of him as cars were still passing in the outside lane, and then a taxi in the outside lane also stopped and beckoned me to cross. I was completely taken aback by this, never happened before, I was half expecting a crash but it seems all the drivers were alert this morning and the traffic had stopped a fair way from me so I felt safe to cross.
All the rest of my ride I was asking myself if that really happened

Yeah I'm starting to think I was hallucinating now!0 -
Superb - it demonstrates that not all drivers are ar5eh0l5s ....
If you had time to stop and ask you'd probably find that both drivers were also cyclists ...
It is nice to see a bit of politeness being shown to others on the road - it's something that had pretty much disappeared in recent years.0 -
I've had that happen a few times, especially as a pedestrian, on a dual carraigeway a car in lane 1 will come to a halt and becon me across. But then traffic is still streaming past in Lane 2, then they get annoyed when I don't move0

If you think it was a Taxi giving way to a cyclist, then surely you know it was hallucinating and not real!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Yes, it was definitely a Taxi, have to say I haven't had bad experiences with them but we're a bit more rural around here.0 -
Usually, people drive with care when the police are knocking about. It's crazy. Why not just drive with care and thought for other road users all the time?
It sometimes gets a little silly when travelling on the motorway and no one wants to overtake the police who are doing only 60mph?Ribble Stealth/SRAM Force

I've seen that so many times... Usually I'm the one to go past and then you get a sudden flood of cars following. The Police almost look relieved when someone actually goes past.
(I still fondly remember doing 90 on the M42 being followed by 4 Police cars, and being thanked for it)Chunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Were they on the lights and you had to hoof it out of their way?Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -

Yes :P don't spoil the illusion 8) I was very lucky as I had *just* got to the end of the managed traffic section going north past BHX. I saw them coming up behind just as I cleared the last gantry while over-taking a line of people who think when it says 60 on their speedo it means 60. So I booted it and saw 90 as I pulled in and they went sailing pastChunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

Are you sure that the minibus driver wasn't trying to get you taken out"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"
