HR + Cadence

Is there a cheaper way of getting an ANT+ compatible computer with HR + cadence than the Bryton Rider 20 with HR on Merlin and then buying a cadence sensor?

Anyone got any experience of them and whether they would recommend the computer?

Thanks

having looked on ebay it doesn't seem like it. I'll keep an eye out on here but you're looking at £115 for the lot and a lot of garmin 500's are listed well above that for second hand.

The Bryton 20 is a neat little thing. The display is a little limited - there are three parameters displayed at any one time and each has a specific cycle of options. So you can display speed, ride time and distance but you can't display speed, ride time and clock at the same time because ride time and clock are on the same part of the display.

This might bother you or it might not. If you want to see everything, you can set the top and bottom parts of the display to cycle through the parameters. It is a little quirky but I like that. The 20+ and 21 have a tidied up display that I think is a little more flexible but those aren't available at these low prices.

Basically, aside from breadcrumb trail routes and workout sessions, it does most of what a Bryton 40 does in a smaller package in a less complicated way. I like the flexibility of the 40 but that's the sort of thing that you wouldn't miss if it didn't exist!

Any Ant+ cadence sensor will work - places like Decathlon do them cheaply. I use the Garmin combined cadence and speed sensor (which works fine on the 20).

Thanks Rolf. Sounds like it might fit the bill.
  • It might be worth looking at the Bontrager Node computers. I have one and am pleased with it.

Even the cheapest seems to be about £37 for the unit alone. To buy that and a decent HR monitor would cost more than the Bryton 20 plu HRM package which is a GPS computer with all the uploading and Strava based available fun that that implies.
