Would a 26x 1.6 tyre fit my stans flows ?

As title, want to get some tyres for road riding in winter and seen some that are 1,6 wide. Are they too small in width ?

They will be fine, my town hack runs a 1.5" Nimbus on a (cheap) rim that is the same internal width as a flow with no issues.
Rule of thumb is that as long as the tyre is wider than the internal rim width it will be fine.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
As above, I have a 1.5 City Jets on cheap rims around the same width as flows, with no trouble at all and the handling is fine.0

Only you know the usage you will put it to, but for on the roads, go full road tyre, nothing else rolls as fast or wears as slowly, Schwalbe City Jets are a great budget choice, after that you pays your money.......Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I've used Continental Sport Contacts in the past in 1.6".....
which roll really fast in the summer months but for winter road riding on a mountain bike something wider with a minimun tread is more preferable as it stops as much spray going up your back. Something like the Michelin Country Rock 1.75" (which are extremely lightweight and can be picked up for just over twenty quid a set).
The Sport Contacts have better puncture protection than the Michelins but the Michelins are cheaper and give more confidence in wetter conditions. Roll quite fast if you pump them up hard enough.0 -

Both look as if they will be very fast rolling with a bit of decent grip going on xc. Think the conties are edging it being a little lighter, then again the shwalbes look better for grip :? Decisions decisions.0 -
They both seem quite heavy to me and the conti's would slip more and probably throw up more spray due to that smooth center strip. But they both seem to have reasonable puncture protection.0

I have a conti sport contact on the front of my commuter and it throws up noticeably more spray than the previous 'road treaded' tyres I've had on there, grips fine on Tarmac though even when soaking wet. But the commuter runs a near full length mudguard, the panaracer Ribmo threw the least spray, but due to it's strange shape it's footprint on the road is of a much narrower tyre.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I've got WTB vulpines on mine at the moment - they are 1.9s but I find smaller tyres are right pain in the arse to get on and off my rims so I don't look forward to a puncture.
I have ran Schwalbe city jets in the past at 1.5 but have no real confidence in running tyres that thin for some reason.

Many of the 'road tread' tyres are about 500g, I have had Sport Contacts, WTB slickasaurus, Spesh Nimbus and the RiBMo, all are near enough 500g, Schwalbe CJ's are a bit heavier though which is what my daughter had, about 560g from memory (all 26x1.5")Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

500g is usually what i aim for in a fat tyre otherwise i can feel the extra weight slowing me down. The Michelin country rocks weigh about 560g, i seem to recall, the Sport Contacts about 500g and Schwalbe Kojak 26x2.0 folding about 460g.
Needless to say the slicks will probably come in lighter than any seriously treaded tyre and roll faster but you will get wetter with slicks as centrifugal force forces the water to pool as a single large globule at the apex of the tyre and then get thrown off as a single rooster tail of spray. Which, since it's got more mass, tends to travel quite a distance from the tyre at lower speeds. More so on wide slicks than narrow ones as there is more surface area.
With a lightly treaded tyre the water can't easily pool at the apex of the tyre as the tread gets in the way, so the water just pools to the highest point of each knobble and gets flung off as multiple smaller droplets that have less mass and travel less far (less a rooster tail as a shower). I have 1.6 Sport contacts on my hybrid bike at the moment and that thing doesn't go out at this time of year without mudguards on for this particular reason. My MTB has the Michelins Country Rocks on and i find i can ride around in the damp conditions without a mudguard and still stay relatively dry. Wouldn't take it off road with those on though.0 -
Thanks for the input people. Went for the mich country rocks in the end, too good a price and they have great reviews everywhere.
They roll great and I think I can notice the weight reduction going from my mich mountain dry² which are 750g. Only naff part is the 1.75 width looks pitiful on the bike :oops: , shame they don't do a 2" .
Oh and see what you mean about the spray, they hardly chuck anything up unless you go through proper puddle's.0
