Looking for something that is water resistant and warm. No budget in mind, prepared to pay for quality if needed. My current bibs are leaving the tops of my legs (bits not covered by leg warmers) and bottom very cold.
Cheers

I was about to buy these back in Sept but they're sold out now. Look the part, keep an eye on the Prendas site they may come back in.

  • I've a pair of Sportful No Rain bibshorts and they have so far proven to be my best investment this winter, especially when paired with the No Rain leg warmers. Thermal and longer in the leg compared to a summer short

I have a pair of DHB Roubaix Shorts (and liked them so much I bought the 3/4 bibs as well as they were going dirt cheap at the time). They seem to work well for spring/autumn although I do tend to wear proper bib longs at this time of year. Have a look on Wiggle, I'm sure DHB still do something similar to the Roubaix as it was pretty popular. Good pad too...

I use these for colder weather and I also have them in 3/4's. Fantastic shorts but expensive but you only pay for quality.

The Assos bibs are great in the cold but they aren't water resistant - I have no experience of water resistant bib shorts/ longs. When the weather turns particularly chilly, I have found that Rapha winter embrocation (or whatever poncy name they give it!) very very sparingly applied to front of legs above knee and bum cheeks really helps me stay comfortable. Be warned though - if it's not cold out, you'll cook and do not slap it on like chamois creme!

I've just had my first ride in the Castelli Nanoflex bib shorts - water resistant, fleece lined and a bit longer in the leg. The best fitting shorts I've ever owned and great in the cold weather. I want the Nanoflex leg warmers to match now!

I also have a set of Castelli nano flex shorts that I have owned for a year. They are warm, still water repellant and also fairly tough. I crashed in them a while back and my overshoes, leg warmers and jacket where write offs but the shorts just slid across the Tarmac with minimal damage. However I would not replace with the same when they wear out as I find the kiss 3 pad does not suit me and one of the most uncomfortable I've ever tried. Also it may not be a concern for you but I'm 5ft 6" and these shorts in an xs come halfway down my knee! The leg grippers are not functional either as they are far to flimsy to grip your leg, on the plus side the material of these shorts mean they don't ride up.

Buy if you get on with the Castelli kiss 3 pad and have a 32" inside leg or more. If not I would look elsewhere.
  • +1 Castelli Nanoflex, otherworldly material.

I love my Rapha winter pro bib shorts, but for combination of warmth and water resistance, will go with the Nanoflex
  • I got some of these today:

First ride out today and was realy impressed. Evans currently have them in their sale, they're warm & claim to be water repellent but I've yet to test that bit.
  • +1 for Assos t607 in colder weather. I much prefer wearing these with leg warmers than bib tights.
For wetter rides I’ve got Giordana G-Shield bibs and leg warmers. Wiggle had them in stock for a while but they’re now hard to come by in the UK. A shame IMO as they’re superb.

Is the Castelli Nanoflex the same as the Sportful No Rain ? Same company ?

To my understanding, yes. Only difference in the shorts is the pad, but the water resistant fabric is the same
