As a winter bike, commuter and toe-dip in cross. Or is there a better suggestion? Looking for something:
Light (8kg or so with decent build kit)
Disc-braked
Fast enough to keep up on group rides (current Genesis Croix de Fer is just too damn heavy and unresponsive - or, yes, my legs aren't strong enough - consider that a given) and generally responsive and fun to ride
Able to take winter marathons or a similar tyre if the winter gets serious
Budget up to £2.5k; very happy with used/discontinued etc, but very few cross bikes ever seem to come up on here.
Considered PX XLS and Dirty Disco, but unconvinced by underlying build quality (and weight of XLS) plus perennial stock issues. Not bothered about 10- or 11-speed, but would prefer mechanical on a winter bike.
