I always use some thin bladed tweezers of some type to pull it out at the separation in the ring. Just be careful not to mangle it up too much. If you do happen to deform the edges at all it can be flattened out by using a large socket (from a socket wrench) or ? as a rolling pin to make it smooth again. Yeah, I've never found the CK screwdriver method to work very well either.0
