Unfortunately when I went to get my bike from a supposedly "secure" underground car park I realised some lowlife scum had stolen the wheels.

I'm looking to replace them but my knowledge of mountain bikes is pretty limited so don't know decent quality rims/tyres which will go together and fit my bike specifically.

I was hoping to spend £50-60 on used ones in good condition but can stretch a bit further if necessary.

The specs to my bike are below:

Frame: Aspect Alloy 6061 D.B. Performance geometry Integrated headtube

These are great value for money, almost certainly better than what you had.

You'll need discs (those take centrelock) tyres, tubes and a cassette as well......

If you want used, you'll have to look around yourself, local to wherever you are will save on P&P.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Thanks but they're out of stock mate. What are the names of type that will fit my type of bike? Is it 6 bolt or something? I genuinely am clueless.

Any QR wheels with a 7/8/9/10 speed freehub.
As your rotors will have been stolen with the wheels, 6 bolt or centrelock, although 6 bolt rotors are easier to get and generally cheaper.

    Look on Ebay.

Look on flatoutcycles, got few there, pinkbike as well, can pick up decent ones around your price used. Just pay £70-£80 and got nice used set. Like these : http://flatoutcycles.co.uk/zzyzx-26-mtb ... 6743-p-asp

  • Your best bet will be to start with wheels first. As other people have suggested above, it really depends on your budget and what you're looking for. It's important that you look for something with a free hub capable of carrying a 9 speed cassette however.

You'll then need one of these Shimano Alivio 9 speed cassettes (11-32T) which is the same as the one you had before going by the spec you posted. They're currently £10.99 from Chain Reaction here: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shim ... rp-prod443

Once that's sorted, you'll be able to determine which type of brake rotor your wheels need. This is determined by the hubs - some will be 6-bolt, and some centrelock. The wheels you buy should mention this within the description, but you can generally tell by looking at the hubs - if one side has a rounded flower shape sticking out with 6 holes, you need 6-bolt discs. If not, you need centrelock. Either type should be compatible with the callipers and brake system you already have. These can also be bought from Chain Reaction for about £10. I'd assume you would need 160mm rotors.

Then with the wheels rebuilt, you just need to decide on which inner tubes and tyres you need, which again is a personal choice depending on your riding conditions and budget. You can buy 26" Rocket Ron's from Chain Reaction also.

The above mostly stands if you buy the parts and re-assemble the components yourself, in which case you will need basic bike tools. Screwdrivers, Allen keys and Torx screwdrivers will get you by with 6-bolt rotors, but you will also need a Shimano lock ring tool to attach the cassette, and to attach a centrelock rotor.

Of course, if you're looking to buy a used wheelset that you can just put straight onto your bike, you can still follow through the above order - wheels, cassette, brakes and then tyres/tubes. It is worth noting however that you will need a 9 speed cassette regardless, and any cassettes other than the one linked above may require re-indexing to properly shift.

    Good luck :)

    Thanks everyone, great info!

I have ordered the wheels Jomox posted. I now realise my original budget was unrealistic for what I wanted.

    Would this Shimano Deore 9 speed cassette require re-indexing? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shim ... -prod31059

Also, how many disc rotors will I need? Two?

Its a 15mm front hub, you check before you ordered? Quite sure your forks will be 9mm QR.Just have to be sure you got the right comptability before ordering parts. Some my fault but the link was an example mainly of prices.

Oops, I didn't check that. I rang them and luckily they hadn't been posted yet so got them changed to these - http://flatoutcycles.co.uk/bontrager-du ... 8645-p-asp

Thought it was worth the extra £20 and have the option of going tubeless. Thanks for the link, great website!

No worries, just have a look on pinkbike in future as well, some good deals there.
