    Very nice.

Are the wheels really sub 1200g? Wow. How much does the complete bike weigh?

    Thanks guys :)

Disco, didn't weigh the wheels before I put them on but haven't glued the tubs yet so when I get a chance I'll pop them on the scales.

Same for whole bike - will need to get a hanging scale to do that - but I'm not too bothered about exact weight - although it does feel ridiculously light. However, I want it to feel solid - my old F5 was just the right balance in the Alps this year between light and sharp but confidence inspiring flying downhill at 45mph :) (I wont be using carbon wheels in the Alps though).

Looks very mean, I like it.

I didn't know Felt does custom? Was it much extra?

  • So nice, those wheels make it look special!

FransJacques, thanks for the nice comment :)

It's custom in that I bought the frameset and then spec'd all the parts myself - I'm very picky ;)

Just hoping she goes as well as she looks!
  • Please can you give us a review of those wheels.
  • Lovely bike mate and how cool does DA look!

fatboyonabike: won't be riding the bike until end of March but I'll be back on with my impression of the bike and wheels.
Got a new pair of Zonda wheels as well so will be able to make a direct comparison with the carbon Wheeelsmith ones on the same bike hopefully :)

Really love this. Frame is meant to be epic too.

Bet it's hard to sit and look at it for the next few weeks....
  • Very nice indeed, well thought about.

I wanted those tyres for my summer bike but i can get close to the 70kg weight limit on them.

They should be, yes... carbon tubs like those will be just over 300 grams each

Second that. It's kinda sweet when the legs are good and you're going up a fairly long hill riding sub-1200g wheels.

The pair that Paolo built up for me had a fair few miles on the road last summer. Perhaps something of a novelty though.

So Munzy, how are those wheels compared to the zondas? Thinking of ordering a pair too.

Tidy! You could drop a few more grams by not wrapping your bars so tightly!

    Sorry for not updating sooner...

Spent the spring moving into a new house so my fitness isn't quite as sharp as it could be ;)

I have trouble with the tubular tyres which has hampered the riding so far (more on that later) but my initial impressions of the wheels, in comparison to Fulcrum 3/Zondas, are:

    - fantastic acceleration - when sprinting or with quick changes of pace/bursts it feels like they dont need to be "wound up" or gain momentum, the bike just shoots forward.
    - the braking (using the supplied pads) is excellent: all the power I need (83kgs), a kind of "luxury" modulation feel and, although reduced, plenty stopping ability in the wet races I've done.

    - They look awesome on the bike :)

    However...

    - I'm not totally convinced I prefer them for the majority of riding or racing I do (around Scotland). I feel that on the flat due to their low weight they don't seem to hold as much momentum; I prefer to push a bigger gear and spin the pedals at a lower cadence (than most of my fellow riders). Whereas with my heavier alloy wheels I get the feeling that they hold their speed better.

Of course its hard to compare them like for like as the engine on the bike is not quite in the same condition it was last year!
