I currently have 100mm Rock shox recon silver coil forks on my hardtail, I have the chance of some cheap Rock shox revelation solo air (2011) forks but they 140mm.

Would these forks be any better than the ones I have already fitted?

Would my rockrider 8.1 handle these forks?

What affects and changes would I have to make to the bike?

    I would not do it.

It would handle like a barge.

Slackening the fork and seat angles by about 2 degrees.

Will be fun as soon as you find a hill.

  • Cheers Nicklouse,

That has made my mind up!

Is 120mm the biggest I could go on my bike? Should I just upgrade the 100mm forks to air forks or just stick with what I have?

Do you feel like what you have is limiting you or does it feel good?

    my bike?
    Which is a ...........

The Rev's can be spaced down, in fact RS sold it as the Recon XC in 100mm travel form (We got one for my daughters and put it back to 130mm!)
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Merlin have Rockshox 120mm Rebas for around £250. Good forks.

what size steerer and dropout are your current forks - 140 on that frame is too much IMHO

Doh, read it twice and still couldn't see it! (specs left at home today!).

If the Revs are good though they can be spaced easily and cheaply enough to suite and they are a good fork and not that heavy (1750g- lighter than a silver for sure!)
