Hi All
Well i thought i would start a thread that will just be about advice on new bike and not a welcome post.
SO i have a budget of around £700 and after a hard tail. it will be used around the forest of dean, and malvern hills mainly. im newish to MTB XC so need a capable bike for a newbie and one i could possibly upgrade the more i get into it. i currently have a GT agressor but its an 09 and showing its age and i want a new bike.
so if you had a budget of £700 what would you go out and buy ?
i have been looking at the cube range as well as newer GT models

Boardman Comp html is excellent.0

looked at this one earlier today i halfords but was to small and was told they only do a 19" frame ?0

whats peoples views on this

or this

Sizing varies, ideally you need to sit on a few. The first cube is ok but rather basic fork, the second one is bloody awful lol.0

do they do the boardman in a bigger frame than 19" then and is it only halfords that sell them?0

Well you're not going to listen, you seem set on buying something from Tredz so go for it.
Oh and Boardmans only in 19"? I think you're talking to someone who doesn't know much, that's the problem the bikes for the money are bloody good but the service from Halfords who sell them can be hit or miss.0 -
it does not have to come from tredz, just been using that site as they have plenty of makes on there site, i just looked on the halfords site and it only goes up to 19" on there site aswell.0

i take it this is the one you are on about yea ?

What size do you think you need?0
-
at least a 21"0
-
Frame size is more about length of the frame really - out of interest how tall are you and what inside leg?0
-
around 6ft2" and its 35/6" inside leg0
-
19" will be fine, probably the best fit. I'm 6'3 and ride an 18" frame.0

Might not be. Im only 6'1" and with a 19" frame I would have a 400mm seat post fully extended. Looking at the geometry the top tube length is shorter than I would want as well.
I'm surprised they don't do an extra large frame, I have the Boardman road race with an extra large frame.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
As said above I sat on the 19'' frame in shop today and was to small, that's if it was a 19'' frame as kid and I mean kid didn't know much about anything0
-
Well went to another halfords store today and tried the boardman on a 19" frame and it is to small, they let me ride it around the store and is just not right. And they also said the biggest frame they do the bike in is the 19''.
So back to what do I get for my budget lol0 -

You are going to have to go around a few shops and try some I think - if 19" wont work for you then depending on geometry an 18 might or a 20 so I would go and look about every local shop to see what works - if you can short list some models with appropriate frame sizing then you can shop around for cheaper deals on line based on that understanding.
We can throw out any number of ideas but unless you can swing a leg over it and say its good you could be throwing your money away on a dog.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
well visited 2 shops today, and tried a few and sat on this one and had a little ride felt great and seems good as an entry bike for someone like me who is new ? i know its not the best around but it fitted i like the look of it and its under budget so can add some extras to eiher the bike or get some new kit ? what do you lot think to it ?
