Hi guys

I have purchased a Gopro Black Hero 3+ And looking for some more batteries for it.

Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket third party batteries?

I have found a good deal below on ebay?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360789658783?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

These ebay ones have a higher Mah so in theory should last longer than the originals!

Many thanks

Unless, like a lot of mAh listings, they lie.

It possibly invalidates the warranty if you use non original batteries in a gopro. Worth checking.
  • I have only the 3 but same power unit I believe. I use the Wabi batteries sold on Amazon. You get two batteries and a wall charger for only £25 ish.

What micro SD are you running? They are renowned for nuking sub standard cards. My advice would be to run multiple smaller sizes rather than one big one. I run x2 16gb and a 32gb.
  • Shylock, have a look at this link. I picked one of these (not the Sandisk as these are not working properly with 3+)

I have no issue spending the money on the original batteries but the product i refer to above comes with a specific charger and 3 batteries specked better than the originals - something not to ignore I'm thinking!

    Any recommendations much appreciated ?

    Thanks

I dont no about gopro aftermarket battery but i got some aftermaket batteries for my mobile (galaxy note 1) i found that when the battery was low (not empty but low 30ish% remaining) that the screen would start to flicker and i had some other weid behaver with the phone. it was as if the battery couldent handle the power demand from the phone. if you choose to use a aftermarket battery dont expect the same bettery perfomace that your would get with your original battery. if your gonna be useing the camera on and off another option would be to use a portable power supply so you can charge the camera up when your between filming.

john2002 - that sounds like a faulty cell within the battery, I had exactly the same behaviour with my Note 1 on its original genuine Samsung battery when some of its cells failed at around 14 months. The replacement non-Samsung battery (Anker) worked as well as the original did.

I bought one of the Ex-Pro batteries for a GoPro3 BE (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro®-AHDBT-201-AHDBT-301-Warranty-Replacement/dp/B00B24PBL6/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1388110417&sr=8-6&keywords=gopro+3+battery), batterylife was similar to the original (don't expect any more, the higher MAh ratings are not genuine) but the fit wasn't as good. It didn't drop in and out as the original did and the tab for getting it out loosened quickly but if buying another battery for the GoPro, I'd buy one of the Ex-Pro ones again as the minor inconvenience was worth the cost saving.

I must of been unlucky because it happened to all 3 of my aftermarket batteries :( . also my original did fail recently and i started to see similar behavour as before with the aftermarket battries, screen flicering etc but i got original battery this time..

  • Diddyfunk- GoPro changed that page after a number of months of the 3 being out. They originally recommended the sandisk I purchased but they then updated their recommendations to the current ones. From what I understand sandisk over estimated the capability of their cards.
  • Shylock, Gopro directed me to that page - it does list the hero 3 +

Do you have a link for an updated page?
