Can anyone advise a safe, puncture-free route form the Meadows park in Edinburgh to Ingilston showground next to the airport? I'm racing a crit so don't want to get any punctures but I also want a safe route!

No route can be guaranteed "puncture free" - s**t happens. I normally just do the most direct route on the road:

You can get on the cycle path along the dual carriageway if you prefer - it's a busy road. Also, beware of the tramlines at Haymarket.
Are you talking about the spring/summer crits? I wasn't aware of any happening for ages.0 -
Thanks man, yeah my first one is in March, just givin it some fore thought!0

If you have never ridden this route before, there are a few tips for you when you reach Maybury junction (where the big Art Deco looking Casino is on your right and the Marriot hotel is on your left once you have passed through Corstorphine etc:
Jump off the road in front of the marriot and cross to the other side of glasgow road to the shell garage
Cross over Maybury road on the next pedestrian crossing
Cross Turnhouse Road when safe to do so to end up on the footpath on the North side of glasgow road heading towards ingliston
You then have a wide path to ride on around the safe side of the roundabout past the new tram depot
When you go under the RBS bridge, you will be forced up and over the bridge and you come down back on the south of the road (there is a little sign pointing you through the best way back to the west bound footpath - sorry can't remember what it is marked but I am sure it is Newbridge/Ingliston) - Either way you can't really miss the walloping great dual carraigeway.
Follow the cycle path until you get to the underpass for the airport and go down and under the underpass and pop back up the footpath on the north side of the road again
Follow this along until you get to the next main road on the right which brings you out right in front of the showground.
I know is seems a bit arse over tit but it is the best and safest way to get through without taking on the dual carraigeway which is suicide. If you go the other side of the roundabout you have to try and cross the bypass which is a nightmare. I have several times seen cyclist close to becoming road kill at that crossing and it just isn't worth it. Likewise, I have seen cyclists trying to ride through the underpass when it is busy and almost reach the same fate when an ignorant driver changes in from the slip road on the other side of the underpass.
Hope this helps, drop me a PM if you have any questions.0
