What mudguards for 25mm tyres?

I'm currently running SKS Race guards, but they only allow a Max 23mm tyre, I want to fit 25 or 28mm tyres for the winter, so what mudguards are compatible? I don't have fixing points and not a vast amount of clearance, my bike is a Canyon Ultimate SLX. I've tried Cruds and they were hopeless. Any other suggestions?

When you say you found the Cruds hopeless, were they the Roadracer 2 and if so in what way were they hopeless? Without fixing points and minimal clearances I don't think you'll get anything better, they just take some effort to get set up well.0

Imo just buy a proper winter bike! The bike you ride at the moment is what most would ride and race in the regular season. You can pick up a second hand winter bike for a few hundred quid and ride safe in the knowledge that if you do take a spill it aint gonna cost you loads to replace when you hit the deck.......save your Canyon for best.0

I doubt you will get 28mm tyres in a CF SLX frame never mind with mudguards on as well.
Why do you want bigger tyres on than 23mm?
I have two winter bikes, a Giant Defy which has 23mm tyres and Giant mudguards. I also have a Bordman CX bike which will run 32mm tyre under 45mm mudguards ok.
As already said you would be better off buying a winter bike then you get a lot more flexibility never mind if you do fall off it wont coast as many ££££££,s to fix0 -

Better grip, comfort, rolling resistance for no discernible weight penalty or "aero" loss.
23s are not for UK, nor TBH for much else. ALL HAIL 25MM!
ALL HAIL!
ALL HAIL!
(I like 25mm tires)0 -
My cruds have done been on 1 of my bikes for 2 years and are great, the raceblades on another are ok but being the old short type are not great, the full fixed guards that are on my single are fab and coupled with 25mm marathons make a great really bad weather bike, I am a total fan of winter bikes, my daily ride is 36 miles in all weathers, and I really don't have the time to clean them daily. I love the fact that my best bikes don't get really mucked up in the winter. Sorry there is a bit of winter bike rant in there too.
Was it the clearance between wheel and seat tube that didn't work? They do take some fitting. Good luck.0 -
Going to revive this thread -
Currently - Felt Z95, 25mm gatorskins and Crud Roadracer2. The guards have always been a tight fit, rubbing with the slightest grit. Now, I've split the rear mudguard (might repair with superglue) but want to think of alternatives
1. SKS RaceBlades - do they work as they look too short
2. SKS RaceBlade Long - seem to have stopped being made
3. SKS Chromplastic - wiggle advise they are too bulky to fit
or
4. Crud Roadracer 2 and put up with the rubbing.
Any thoughts or ideas are appreciatedFelt z95 - loving my first road bike0 -
I bought some SKS Raceblade long just a couple of months ago.0

Why do I need a source? You assume it can't be true because you can't find an article on it when you search google for it.
Go on then, go into a shop (any shop) and ask them why they can't get you any in.And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.0 -

Well then the shop had some in stock or it was long enough ago that the distributor did. Now the distributor is out of stock and SKS are changing hands in the UK, and the RaceBlade Longs are not being supplied. Capish?
Take all the time you need to decide which one it is.
Meanwhile, 25's still roll just fine within the guards. And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon god they made.0 -
i've had both and the damn raceblades fell apart after a year, cruds still going strong ...0

Hi folks. Anyone out there fitted the Sks raceblades onto a wilier running 23mm tyres.
cheers0 -
I've got curds on a cube peloton with 25s. They rubbed when first fitted but a little pereseverence and jiggery they fit fine.

Whether they are still being made or not i've just purchased and fitted some longs (the ones that fit to the QR axle). Well i've attached the rear only onto my Sempre running 25mm tyres. It stops my back and whoever is following me from getting a soaking. I'm not worried about the front guard.
Some fettling was reguired in that the bracket that attaches to the brake is attached at the top rather than underneath the brake and the flap required some trimming, but there is no rubbing noise at all.
So if you can get a set that would be my recommendation.0 -
