I have this bottom bracket installed in my road bike:
FSA PowerDrive Sealed Cartridge, 68 × 108mm

It can take a BB30 as stated on the frame, it comes with FSA Vero Compact with PowerDrive chainset, I know I would have to buy another chainset to change it to the BB30 just wondered which is the best ones to get and which bottom brackets would fit?

what frame is it? with the current bb there must be some kind of adaptor fitted if the frame is bb30

bb30 uses standard sealed ball bearings, just avoid cheapo ones that may have poor tolerances, if you want branded ones, sram are ok

sounds odd to have a bb30 frame with adaptors and a vero crankset
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

It's a carbon frame made by Jamis xenith endura sport 2012

I'd like to in time upgrade the drive of the bike

  • How much are you willing to spend on a chainset? I'll be selling some brand new FSA bearings once I get my new Felt frame, but that might be a few weeks away.

the jamis 2012 catalogue is here...

    http://www.jamisbikes.com/catalog_archi ... ATALOG.pdf

page 111 says the bb is pf30, not bb30, it's a similar concept but allows less stringent bb shell tolerances

see here for details of these and other bb types...

this document is handy for checking dimensions...

you can get pf30 cups to take a bb30 crankset

  • Decent price for new Sram 22 crank here http://www.probikekit.co.uk/bicycle-cra ... 13598.html

Should work with 10s ok, they also have the older 10s version for a few £ less but not as much option in crank length.

If you're changing then might be an idea to try and gauge your ideal crank length. Bit of a minefield though.

with the current bb there must be adaptor cups to fit it to pf30, you could keep the cups and switch to a hollowtech ii bb, then you've got the choice of umpteen shimano cranksets, the rest of the groupset is tiagra, so you could match that or fit, say, 105 5600/5700

but aside from weight and slight variations in stiffness, there's not a whole lot of difference between cranksets

i'd guess the standard wheels will be pretty heavy, if you really want to spend some money on the bike, you might get more noticeable improvement from some nicer wheels

  • Yeah good call on keeping the money for wheels.
