The Camber looks awesome dude.. do they handle well? As I want to get my self a full sus trail bike that can do it all sort of speak.. they look really nice!! :)

As I have the 29 ht for xc duty now my Camber is getting the 'trail' side of its personality bought to the fore. Some wider bars will soon join the shorter stem and it seems to enjoy being a play bike.

I love it but I don't have a lot of experience on other full sussers so can't compare it to anything, I've found that it's xc enough that it climbs well but still deals with being hit really hard (well as hard as my skills will allow) on the trails. I'm going to be putting a 140mm fork on it later this year and like Super Dee I'll be adding slightly wider bars and a shorter stem but that all down to preference.

Hopefully taking it to Gawton this weekend so I'll let you know how it deals with a decent DH track

I got it on some jumps the other day and it was my skill and confidence that was holding me back rather than the bike, bloody love it
  • What bar / stem combo will you go for?

I've just ordered some fatbar lite's.
  • Dunno yet, got quite a bit of money going out on other things at the moment (£480 for a new clutch and brakes on the car for starters and that's before it even gets MOTd ) so stem and bars are having to wait for a bit. Looking at a 60mm stem and bars with less backsweep @ 720mm (currently 90mm + 680mm) Possible options are
    60mm in white
    720mm in black

Did stick a minion ST 2.35 on the front today and I've got my mate coming down from Bristol for a couple days so gonna do some local trails and looking forward to seeing the difference there.
  • Enjoy the ride.

Yeah, I know what you mean - I've not bought much stuff since about October so felt due for some bike spending!

Fitted the fatbar lite's today and some new grips (Spesh xc lock on like I'd fitted to the ht as they nice and slim). Really like the look of them - I'll post a pic in the fs thread once it stops raining!

Didn't know your year came with 680 bars. Mine came with 720 but since going to the 50mm stem (from 90) I wanted slightly wider, less back sweep by a fraction. The fatbar has always appealed but with some of the trails I ride 720mm is fairly wide so 780 would have been a tad OTT. So the lite version at 740 seemed spot on.

I've got a 2.3 front and 2.1 rear tyre set up.
  • Oh my goodness that minion has made it a different bike to ride!!!!!! So confidence inspiring as it just stuck to everything  was made all the more satisfying watching my mate slide out on a large rooty section and I roll past laughing at him with the front wheel planted

Wrists are killing after riding for 2 days so definetly need some new bars with a lot less back sweep and up sweep. You been able to get out on yours since the upgrade? 740 is the max I'd go to but that's because I enjoy the tight technical stuff as well as hooning around.

This is the camber at the mo and my mates 16" 06 Zaskar which feels like a bloody child's bike it's so small lol suits him though as he's only 5'6"

The hussefelt stem is great (I've got the 50mm version) a bit heavy so everyone slags them off, but still great! The bar however I'm less sure about, i that's a good 150g heavier than your average bar, not really worth it... Nice bike, good that you've found out what a grippy front tire does... :) enjoy!

Stem is going having to wait for a bit but good to know it's worth a punt, however the bars need to go soon!!!!! Glad you pointed that weight out, in my drunk state and having looked at what felt like 12,000 bars I had confused the weight of another and thought it was much lower than that  please tell me you know of a different choice, has to be much less than 8 degree back sweep and as cheap as possible (it's a tight month / year :( )
  • Have you seen these? Not sure if you wanted to go up to 720mm but these are 710mm:

I haven't seen them before but when searching CRC for a mate I spotted them and thought of this thread!

    ha thanks bud.

no not seen those before but I'm actually waiting to hear back from someone on here who has a set of Atherton Pro bars for sale, low rise (20mm), less backsweep (7 degree) and only 2 degree upsweep so they sound perfect and @ 745mm with cutting guides I can try them at a few different lengths before making my mind up :)
  • Just finished a day of servicing ready for Gawton DH tracks tomorrow

Added a mucky nutz and new to me Pro Atherton bars (cheers Ste_t ) plus the new 50mm stem from a couple weeks back. Feeling so much more responsive now on the front end, really pleased with the setup

  • Looks great. I'd agree that the set up works. Its very similar to mine and I think its changed the bikes character greatly. More like a Camber Evo, if there had been a 26er version.
  • It held it's own on the red and double red DH tracks at Gawton today  could have done with some more travel by the end of the day but then I also could have done with some bigger testicles throghout the day so we're even

Next upgrade on the list is a 34 or 36t narrow wide chain ring then I'm saving for a Transition Covert :D

The Camber is gone :( I've really enjoyed it and it's reignited my love for riding again but time to upgrade to something that can cope with my fat arse and heavy handed style of riding so the birth of the Stumpy Evo begins  looking forward to getting this built and getting back on the trails.

    Camber in it's last form

Nice bike. Look forward to the build pics.

My Camber came out to play yesterday but gets little ride time at the moment as I like the big wheeler.

Nice bikes, what are the respective rear travel numbers between the two? 110 and 130mm or what?

Camber is 120mm, the stumpy iirc is 140mm. I'm sure Alex will confirm.

Oh right... So the camber frame is identical to my bike, the 2007 stumpy. It seems like they're adding travel to all their bikes these days, which is a shame because there are no short travel small wheelers any more, and in the old days you got a pitch if you wanted 140mm, stumpy at 120mm, and camber at 100/110, so you had lots of good, varied trail bikes, but now they got rid of the pitch and put the stumpy in its place, leaving a gap... Shame, but still, I'm looking forwards to the new frame being built up

I was sad to see it go but where I'm riding the most I need the extra travel for the heavy landings and sizable rock gardens.

To answer Cqc, my Camber was 120mm and the Evo is 145mm which is 5mm up on the older Stumpy. Also the head angle is slightly slacker on an evo and it has ISCG mounts which standard stumpys don't have. Now the range goes Epic (100mm) XC, Camber (120mm) trail/XC and then Stumpy (140-145mm) trail and then obviously the status and demos which are their big hitters. Still plenty of choice

Picked up some 2013 170mm Lyrik RCs for it today  and got them at a stupidly low price so I reckon this build should cost no more than £100-200 given what I got for the Camber which is a bonus

If you go back far enough the Stumpy was 100mm - if you go back far enough it may have been even less. The original SC Heckler was 70mm rear travel, its 150 now. Evolution.
    Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.

Sorry, I missed the EVO bit so 5mm out :(

I look forward to seeing the build as they are great bikes. I've tried to do a bit of EVO type work with my Camber, along same lines that Alex took. Although I don't leave the ground as much by the look of it!

I still regret not having the funds at the time to get blue Pitch that a lbs had up for sale a few years ago.

Yeah I know, but what I am saying is they know don't have any small wheelers with short travel, that's all...

So I take it the epic is only available in 29er flavour?

Got everything but the brakes ordered for Stumpy now, even treated myself to some Bondhus hex keys and a new chain whip  as soon as it all turns up I'll start the new build thread
