What fabric for my bike cloth?

Obviously it's important to keep the bike clean, and a nicely buffed surface keeps the air resistance low for maximum speed.
So I'm wondering, what sort of cloth should I use to give it that final sheen?
I'm thinking cotton, lint-free, obviously - but maybe microfibre would be good.
Thing is, my bike has a carbon frame, and with man-made fibres, would static electricity be a problem? If I used it on my helmet as well, would there be a risk of electric shock or fire when I sit on the bike, especially in the wet? I've used other things on my helmet in the past, and that's caused quite a shock, so I need to be careful.
