Really nasty injury, surprising as he didn't look to be riding anything serious! It's not for the faint hearted! (it starts properly after 25secs)

Get well soon CG.

Jeez, what happened there? It only looked like a minor tumble. If that was his femoral artery then he's very lucky to be alive.
  • That was crazy!!! Looked like such a minor crash. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to a true mtb legend.

Very scary to end up with a near fatal injury from what was quite a minor crash.

CG Was very lucky to survive that. His friends saved his life.
How many people know what to do if this happened to someone?
I did a outdoor first aid course a couple months ago. Before that I would have had no idea how to deal with an injury like that.
It's an injury that could happen to any mountain biker.
  • Jesus that must have been scary. Lucky to be alive after what looked like a minor off

    Jeez,

Time for me to get back into my bubble wrap, that is some scary sh*t from such a small off!
  • Indeed. When I'd heard about the injuries from a crash, I (like most it seems) had imagined it had come from CG pulling some massive, no handed whip over a 600m crocodile infested river gap with his trousers on fire. Most certainly not losing the front on a little flat fire-road.

Hopefully he'll be back racing soon, because he's an absolute legend!

He retired from racing this season didn't he? I thought he was just being awesome nowadays...

Bars turned 90 degrees and handlebar broke his pelvis, which ripped the flesh and femoral artery. Could happen to any of us. I still carry a first aid kit when I ride for horrific accidents like this, though he took it like a boss, i'd be moaning like a little b*tch if that happened to me.

It's surprising what adrenaline and shock will do in a situation like this.
When a casualty is screaming in pain it's normally a good sign that they aren't in shock yet.

Yup - in an emergency situation trained medics will usually attend the quiet casualties first, cos it's likely their injuries are more serious than the loud ones.

I did an outdoor first aid course recently and was told that with multiple casualties go for the quietest one but keep talking to the others.
Some of the set up situations we were given to deal witg were really tough and the casualties were really good.

That's bloody sobering. I crash like that a lot and don't think much of it. It's just a laugh to tell my missus about it and show off the cuts and bruises when I get home. I'll be thinking twice as I go down next time...

I didn't say he broke his leg.
  • At least he had good buddies who could help. It sucks when simple offs happen with great consequences.
