Or Kelly. I'm a big fan of his but his commentary drives me up the wall.

Kelly's knowledge of the sport is great to hear but his voice drives me nuts too.

Reading his tweets, I can hear his fantastic commentary voice.

Oh god, absolutely, the bloke's a right tool, droning on about nothing in particular, when he should be commentating on the race, dreadful, dreadful baffoon!!

  • FWIW - here's a nice 2 part interview with DH from last spring. Part 2 explains the projects he's been doing with Spokesmen

IMO I loved the three of them doing the 2012 TDF

Unless it was because it contained the offensive "quote" i guess?

Ignoring the distraction of comparisons to Kirby, like the OP, I am hopeful to hear and see DH back on the mend and back on Eurosport duties.

If anyone has any news it would be appreciated.

It drives my missus crazy, boring sounding Irish guys on telly for hours at a time.

If we all got a quid every time Sean Kelly said 'calculation'...well, we'd be rolling in it. 8) He does come out with the odd witty comment to redeem himself though. Best commentator for me, is Magnus Backstedt. Really enjoyed his commentary on this years Milan-San Remo. Agree with the majority, Harmon is much better than Kirby. Flanders commentary had some epic quotes.

Yeah but if your "views" are wrong and come from rumours you've heard and can significantly damage or end somebody's career just because of what you've heard then you shouldn't be able to express your "views". Wouldn't like losing your career, family and reputation because of some malicious rubbish somebody's made up, would you?

Just for the record I replied to the allegedly inflamitory post so it was contained in my post, probably why it was deleted?

Do you like anyone that's not english ? You hated Andy Murray last week and now its Sean Kelly !!. Kelly would be the 1st to admit he's not up to scratch behind the mic, but his knowledge of bike racing is 2nd to none and how he talks well am afraid you will just have to put up with that. christ imagine him having the audacity of being born in rural ireland and having an accent. right enough the term "boring sounding" does not crop up when were on about people from essex eh  .

I love Kelly. And either his accent has softened or I'm more used to it. I couldnt understand a word when he first started.

    Me too

Since I started working from home a few years ago I’ve had Eurosport’s cycling coverage on while I work. Sean, David, Carlton and co seem like old friends now, even though I’ve never met them (except Magnus who I got to race against earlier this year)

Can't see that I've said I hate Kelly anywhere? My missus doesn't like his voice but even she (Who knows nothing about cycling) knows he is a cycling legend. Doesn't change the fact he has a dull voice.

And yeah I am not a fan of Murray, he is boring as hell and could barely even muster a smile when he received that award. Sean Kelly has ten times the personality he does. Lighten up!

+1. Liek David Millar for the 2012 Worlds, it's great to hear a current or very recent pro as the backup commentator. Get very bored with Kelly and Kirby and I hardly watch much live racing.

Much prefer Kirby to Matt Stephens or Declan Quigley. Although I did appreciate DH I don't think he's likely to be back on Eurosport after this time.....

DH blotted his copy book irreparably IMO. As much as Kirby speaks utter guff.
