Will theese do for downshifters?

Doesn't mention them being SS though so does that mean they will rust?

Shimano ones are stainless steel and work with DT shifters
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I've seen 'Shimano steel gear cables' and 'Shimano stainless steel cables' for sale in the same shop. The stainless ones are more expensive and I always buy them instead of the standard ones. If they were all actually stainless I'd be pretty p---ed off and Shimano would be on dodgy ground...

The magnet test will answer that one. If there is a strong attachment between cable and magnet, then you have got a standard steel cable. Should be able to check that one in the shop.

Thanks for the info, ordered some jagwire SS ones from ebay instead :).

The jagwire basic ones come in three grades galvanized, standard SS & SS slick.

Will use the magnet test to check them.
  • Now I am really confused! I always buy Jagwire Slick SS from here http://www.starcyclespares.co.uk/gear-cables-76-c.asp for my SRAM set up. They have JS stamped on the cable end. I recently bought a new set of SRAM Apex shifters and they came with gear inners but they were stamped JC. So I tried the magnet test and both are magnetic! Have I been ripped off on the starspares ones as they are sold a SS but are magnetic (the non SS ones are a bit cheaper so not much money involved but still annoying)? Are the ones stamped JC that came with the shifters steel? What do the letters JS and JC stamped on the cable ends mean - I can't find anything on web?

JS / JC = Jagwire Shimano / Jagwire Campag?

Would make good sense if it was that but it can't be cause the cable ends are the same shape and size and are both Shimano sized not Campag (Campag ends are smaller than Shimano).

    JS/JC = Jagwire Stainless / Jagwire Crappynonstainless ?

I have just wasted half an hour on the Jagwire website and I'm none the wiser. :(

Yes this is what you need for downshifters. They are supposedly not stainless and yes, they will rust eventually but when depends on your conditions. Stainless is also offered on the same webpage and worth the slightly extra cost IMO.
