Help,
A friend of a friend is selling his old Trek OCLV 120 USPS edition with a mix of Dura Ace and Ultegra, and has offered it to me. The only reason I would buy it would be to sell it on, due to its age and having 9 speed components and I am not really into old or vintage bikes.
I have done a little digging on-line and it looks to have been a very good bike in it's day, but that day was about 10 years ago.
He assures me there is no damage to the carbon and that it has been well maintained.
Is it worth a punt at £320 ????
Any advice would be appreciated.

Spare parts are plentiful available e.g. cassettes, BBs, chainrings etc and if it is in good condition, there's no reason why it shouldn't ride like a new bike. The area where there might be a bit of wear will be the wheel rims, so worth checking out, but £320 is a fair price. It's probably nearer 12 years old too - but hardly vintage.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Profiteering out of a mate is a bit lame but yeah it seems like a good deal..0

Would it be unethical also to suggest reading the forum rules?I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
I don't know the guy who is selling the bike. One of my mates knows him through his work and though I maybe interested in buying it.
I have a couple of road bikes at the moment and don't need another, but the bloke is trying to sell it for what now looks to be a reasonable price and all I was hoping for was a little advice on it as I am not familiar with older carbon bikes.
If I have offended anyone by looking to make a few pounds then I apologise. If I had bought it the guy was going to get the money he wanted (win), I was going to sell it on and make a few quid (win) and whoever bought it would be getting a new/old bike (win).
The forum is called road buying advice so not sure of the rules I have broken? Or does it only apply to new?0 -
Similar specced bike sold recently on Fleabay for £411

Think £320 is a pretty good price but not sure how much profit you'll make out of it when selling it on. You might find you need to spend a few quid to make it more attractive to potential buyers thus reducing any real benefit.
I have heard that these early USPS liveried Trek's are sought after in the USA but that's a whole different set of complexities if you were planning to try selling it on "across the pod"0
