Just purchased Giant contact gel handlebar tape, bizarrely it is in no way sticky. I expected to peal off some backing strip to find an adhesive area running down the length of the tape, but no, to my surprise there is no sticky area on this tape. I can't work it out, how on earth can a non-sticky handlebar tape work?

Any suggestions before I take this thing back?

I'm not sure about the Giant tape specifically but many tapes come without adhesive and are soft and tacky enough not to need it. Been using non-adhesive gel-cork type tapes for years with no problems and actually I prefer them due to being easier to re-use and it doesn't leave a sticky goo on your bars and cables.
  • So a handlebar tape will stay in place without being sticky? I had no idea!

    This is the product:

The tapes relay on the tackiness of the material sticking too itself, as well as the slight elasticity of the material. The good thing is you can unwind and rewind the tape a number of times to get it right!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Recently had to resort to a Stanley knife to remove the remnants of 6 year old cork tape / adhesive strip. The non adhesive kind sounds like a good idea to me!
