Hello

I’m working on a new build I’m inclined to choose the On-One 456 Evo 2 frame as a starting point.
The idea is to fit an overhauled Fox Van 32 130RL and some other available spares like a Deore triple chainset, shifters and mechs.
Now I have some questions for you:
1- What’s the feedback from On-One Evo 2 frames?
2- How good are the parts from On-One, namely, handlebars, stems, wheels, etc.?
3- How would you rate customer support?
4- Would you recommend converting my triple chainset to a double?

Thanks for your help!

1/Can't really comment, not my kind of frame
2/ Very good, they are all quality generic parts you'll find sold under various other names (such as Superstar) as well, not the very best, but good sound workable products.
3/ Only ever had one issue with parts supplied, resolved promptly and efficiently.
4/ For a 456 I'd consider a 1x setup, otherwise with 9 or 10 out back, a double is the most you need, just replace the large with a bash!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

I had the 456 Summer Season frame which was very similar.
Bombproof frame. Very slack, bit of a tank on twisty single track, the Evo isn't quite as slack but its close.
Not the best quality paint, started flaking after a year. Threads for ISCG mounts and brake mounts were full of paint and needed tapping.
  • I've had handlebars and stems from them and found them to be good quality. I live about 15 mins from their showroom so I like to have a nose at their parts before buying. I like the look of the 456 frames and they look great in the flesh. I've not ridden one though.

I like their finishing kit - good value & some interesting designs as far as bars go.

Had a standard inbred once - nice ride, quite long in the top tube, so size down (assuming 456 is the same - I'll let you check that). Finish wasn't amazing but was great value.

Top tubes are long but On One say they make them long so you can use a short stem to improve the steering.

I agree with the above but I'm 5'9'' and would normally go for a 17, 17.5 or maybe even an 18'' frame. If I was getting any On-One bike I'd be going for 16'' - even if you account for a 60-80mm stem.

I'm 6'1" and had an 18" frame which was too small.
  • Ive had a carbon 456 and and ridden my brothers 456 evo, both amazing rides cant fault them. The hardware products like stems, headsets etc are decent quality. I would give their wheels a miss though. Service and support from the Rotherham shop is decent as well.

As far as 1x10/2x10 goes depends on fitness and where/what you are riding.

    Thanks for your inputs!
I haven’t checked the sizes yet, but I will take your experiences in consideration. Doing a quick check in the sizing guide it seems my 1.80m height and 0.8m inside leg (approximately 5’11’’ and 31,5’’ for the metrically challenged) fits in the 18’’ frame size. I like my bikes small and nimble, but I think a 18’’ should be fine with a 50 or 60mm stem coupled with a 750mm bar.
The transmission is still to be decided, depending on the spares available as this will be a do-it-all budget bike.
Just another question regarding painting, how does the raw finish holds up against time and elements?
    Cheers.
