New saddle

So I've decided to move on to another saddle,as Arione CX is not for me.Problem is,Arione is good on short riders and crits but longer rides are problem. The problem is that after longer rides I loose sense in my lower parts(sorry but I don't now how to say on other way).
And result of my searching for new saddle would be Prologo Scratch Pro plus,as new saddle would need to have middle a bit lower or a whole to release pressure of that zone.

Any better saddles? As I am in testing month right now,so more options would be good.

I had a similar problem with fizik aliante, fine on shorter rides, but anything 50 and above, lost feeling in man bits!
Went to a bontrager dealer where they let you buy with no quibble 30 day moneyback guarantee, they did a seat fit and bob's still me uncle, good luck

it's so dependant on your own size and riding position I think the best advice is to find a local bike shop that allows you to test various ones , find out what works for you. What some people swear by can be painful for others.
I have found probably my best saddle on ebay - a specialised Toupe pro with the big cut out down the middle - far better on 30+ miles than my stock scott saddle, i used to start losing feeling down there after about 40 mins riding. Been very happy with the Toupe over 3000 miles now this year.
  • I tried many saddles (arione/various romins/toupes in various widths/Scott etc) and came round to finding that the best fit for me was the standard Boardman saddle that came with my 2010 road team

I now have a Boardman saddle on all my bikes (x4) as it works for me

Everyone is different and a bit trial and error

Not really such a thing as a "better" saddle, just one that fits you correctly. Don't get hung up on a more expensive saddle being the better saddle.
I have a Brooks (cliched I know) for long lazy days on the bike and Charge Spoons on my other road bike and mtb's. I do use the Spoon on longer rides without problems, but the Brooks is armchair comfort as oppose to office chair comfort.

I know,I just used wrong word.Soon I will be going to my LBS to see are there any test saddles,to see what suits me best.As Arione was a bit to much, but I see that I'm not the only one who had a problem with that,.

I cant get on with any saddle that doesn't have a cut out so I switched to the Prologo Scratch Pro Plus just over a year ago; it's brilliant for all rides from an easy spin to a 200km race. It may not apply to you, but I found moving the fore/aft position of the saddle further behind the BB helped as well (the saddle height had to drop to compensate for this). A lot of guys I train with swear by the Selle SMP saddles too.

  • If you have a decent Specialized dealer nearby, it might be worth trying their BG fit service.

You could consider the Versus range from Fizik which are designed with a central channel to relieve pressure in the perineal area. Below is a review of the Arione Versus but there are Aliante and Antares models also.

I have the Aliante Versus and find that suits me but as has been said above - only you can decide if a saddle is right or not.

The Arione is a pretty universal saddle. Have you set it up correctly?-run a spirit level on it and make sure its perfectly flat. Also try some fore and aft movement. I only say this as I struggled with saddles until I had one fitted correctly. Not had any issues since

Get a saddle with a cutout. Best way to keep the feeling in your nether regions.

    Thank you all for help.

Hm,shop from Spesh with Fit is not close to me and would cost me to get there, somewhere 1/4 of new saddle.

I totaly forgot for Versus version of Fizik saddles, but I would like now to try and see what other saddles offer.
My LBS has Prologo,San Marco and Fizik so something from that I will try soon.
My Arione at first was flat, then I have tried to lower the nose a bit and it was a bit better but still after 2h of riding there are problems.

Had the same problem, after an hour it was quite painful. Measured myself and bought a specialized avatar saddle in the correct size. Can now cycle for over three hours with no pain or problems. My previous saddle was too narrow and had no cutaway. Adjusting the old saddles position made little difference.

Check on web for guides on measuring yourself for saddles.

Try a kurve saddle. I had saddle issues and now have Fizik a Kurve Bulls on both my bikes!
You may be able to test ride one!

I have tried many saddles over the last few years starting with a Spesh Toupe one of whose plastic/ carbon support rails snapped. I've come full circle and ended up with a Toupe Pro. Initially it feels as hard as nails and I have struggled to decide if it is the right one for me. However, after long rides I keep thinking, I didn't notice the saddle - my kind of definition of the right one! I still have a couple of Spesh Romin Evo saddles (Pro and Expert) which others on this forum have rated very highly. That's why it would be beneficial for you to hook up with a Spesh dealer to try a couple of models out. Finding 'the right one' is usually not a quick process!!

PS I have the Fizik Alliante and Kurve Bull neither of which work for me over longer distances. The S Works Toupe, whilst extremely light, feels like sitting on a brick with an absolutely rigid carbon construction!

S Works Toupe (2012 model as the new ones are much heavier and have too much padding) is my goto saddle, but I also ride the Pro for 200+ milers. The stiffer the saddle, the less pain whilst riding as otherwise they collapse under load which leads to pain. Point is, saddle recommendations are silly as no top asses are built the same.

As I've said, if you want to avoid dead dick on rides, then you need a cutout. The right shape and size is necessary for comfort.

I have 3 Prologo Scratch Pro saddles on different bikes, from the numerous saddles I've tried the Pro are the best fit for my shape. Only yesterday I bought a Scratch Pro Plus (reason for the Pro Plus was I bought for a great price) for another bike. I've not fitted it yet so can't comment on any difference it will make

You'll get a million different answers; a saddle that suits one person might be terrible for another.

I had a similar problem, little Matt going numb, so started on the quest for the elusive perfect saddle.

Get your ass measured, or do it yourself (put a piece of tin foil on the stairs, sit on it and measure between the indentations from your sit bones). Then have a look at saddles which suit your width.

Have a look at the saddle exchange on here; http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40112&t=12938414&start=20

Also look at eBay to try saddles out. You don't want to spend a fortune testing a saddle only to find that you hate it.

For what it's worth, I tried the Fizik Antares Versus (with the cut out) and it was the most painful saddle I've ever ridden. 15mins on the saddle was all I could manage...... But others love it !

I ended up with a San Marco Mantra, which I got for less than half price, as new, from eBay. It's a fantastic saddle; I've not seen a bad review for it, but it doesn't seem that common.

So I've finaly found out which saddle is good for me.Ended up on Mantra or Spesh Romin.
Where are the best price on Romin? I have only found on Evans Cycle Romin Pro for 83pounds,other sites are about 100.

And again thanks to everybody for reply :)

You're not going to find 'amazing' deals on Spec products as retailers are limited in their discounts due to their dealer agreement with Spec.
