9 speed shifters on 8 speed.

Will 9 speed shifters work on an 8 speed set up.

    front- yes, rear- no

    Shifter controls how far the mech moves with each shift. 9sp cassette sprockets are set closer together than 8sp, so you need each shift to be slightly smaller, too.

    Simply fit your 9sp shifters plus a 9sp cassette and chain, leave the rest alone and you will have a 9sp system

    Or use a J-tek shiftmate it will cost about the same.
