I don't think doing the cross season is generally a good build up for most road racers. Not a lot of fun getting smashed by the specialist CXers at the peak of their season.

Yeas but they do it for the crowds and organisers - they dont do a full season

That was nearly me at the weekend! Hit a tree instead though so it's all good. With cross you are only going about 6mph most of the time :-)
