Hi folks
I want to remove my chain to clean it, never done it before. Doesa Shimano Dura Ace chain have a link that can be manipulated to remove the chain or do you need one of those tools that remove a link in the chain?
Thanks
Chris

Yes you need a chain tool and you'll need either a replacement quick link (KMC make a good one and make sure you get the correct one for 10 speed, 11 speed, etc.) or the special Shimano replacement pin to put the chain back together. A quick link makes life much easier if you plan on ever removing the chain again but double check to make sure that a quick link hasn't already been installed.

or just buy a Park chain cleaner and tub of paraffin and clean in situ

  • Or get a morgan blue chain keeper and clean the chain on the bike.....personally I find it easier to work the chain with a brush and degreaser than rely on 'bath' type machine.
  • +1. Only remove the chain when you need to replace it.
