i'm looking at getting a new bike for regular trail riding (ie some technical, some fast flowing) for around £500 - £600 - being a student i want to keep it reasonably low
i've been looking around and having recently seen the review in mountainbiking uk i'm thinking of getting the Calibre point.50

i was just wondering if any one had any experience with this bike

also i was thinking of these as possible alternatives please comment on which is the best bang for buck - or recommend your own

The RR 8.1 is better than the go outdoors bike.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Why don't you have a look on pink bike, you might just pick up a decent 2nd hand bike for less or a better one than those you listed for your budget, won't harm you to look.

Did you see this? http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/cate ... -13-47865/ sounds good to me.

i can't really see much of a difference between the rockrider and the point50, can you point them out - the forks are virtually the same and whilst the rock rider has a triple and 9 you get a better distribution with a double and 10 don't you.

that was the bike i originally saw in mtbuk magazine, i then saw the point50 and for £150 more it seamed like a much better bike

i could stretch my budget to 700 but the point 50 seams to have exactly the same spec as the on-one

if i were you id go for the calibre that was just reviews, for sub 400 GBP seems brilliant, plus that will give you money left over to get all your equipment, helmet, shoes, gloves, clothing, hydro pack etc. these are always over looked when budgetting for a bike and can easily reach into treble figures, plus get a go outdoors card for 4 quid and get extra money off! Never hurts

i'm thinking about going for the two.two at £360 i can get a decent helmet and jersey - i can take the flat pedals off my old bike as that was the first thing i bought before i broke it - its got a great review and i'd be interested in throwing it over some trails
