"Oh la la la la la Ballan we've got a problem!"

    .

I've had to explain this one a lot to guys on the club run, so in case the joke is lost on some people.....

It was the 50th anniversary of Apollo 13 and Balan is where Boonen is from.

Thanks for that it makes more sense now.I got the reference to Apollo 13 but didn't know Boonen was from Balan.

    Ah, merci!
And to be a massive pedant, it's Balen, not Balan
Yep, and not to be confused with Baal, where Sven Nys is from and Niels Albert lives

    Yeah apologies - dyslexic innit.

I'd completely forgotten about Langkawi. I think ITV 4 used to show highlights about 4 or 5 years ago. Always seemed another nice leg opener

I recall that Harmon used to get excited with it in the days he would say Langkawee, Escapee and (what is the other ee that he and Kirby say ?)
Flat stages with one mountain finish to decide the race.
No Thanks. :!: Leave it to Asia TV.

I wish we could get the cyclo cross races here on telly rather than via t'internet. Do they show them live in Belgium?
    Yes of course they do.
I was told a few years ago that a Thanet RC man on the coast near Ramsgate/Deal had an analog TV Arial pointing at Belgium and another at France. (different system there)

    This year, Poland...

Qatar only stays if it can guarantee crosswinds.
The former may just need time, the latter an act of Alah?

Best that we keep them all, in the present financial drought.

  • An act on Allah is a different scenario.

A few furriner cyclists in an Indonesian race thought it a good idea to relieve themselves in front of a mosque. Needless to say that they escaped with a fine.

    From the Locked thread. :)
@ dejay - Respect for naming the European events that have lots of history and tradition. Can we open up a thread which debates whether or not to ditch tours and events outside of Europe?
To page 1 of this thread.

My calendar of Interest is in EUROPE and if anything else is binned then so be it, as it matters not.

Outside this area the races are only attempted copies of the real thing in Europe.

There was a very short piece with Steve Cram showing the Tour of Rwanda in one of those BBC Olympic dreams programmes on Saturday, no doubt inspired by Tim Lewis' book. Dirt roads (strada rosa rather than strada bianca) and cobbles! What little we saw of the racing looked lively and the crowds were large and enthusiastic.

    Has anyone mentioned Bejing yet?

And does anyone actually watch it?
