Southern Spain rides

Hello,

I am going to be in Southern Spain for the next month or two.
I am searching for some good rides to do. I have the two Mountain High/Higher books and also the Cyclist magazine from a couple of months ago with the Alpuharras route in it.

I have done a few searches and mostly cycling holidays come up.
Mapmyride seems a bit random and difficult to know which ones are worth doing.

Anyone got any good recommendations?

Whereabouts in Southern Spain are you going?

The Blanco team did their winter training in a town called Mojacar which is 45mins east of Almeria. Laurens Ten Dam posted their training rides on Strava - link below.

My mother and father in law run a bar there and they have said that they have a load of pro teams using it as a winter base now.

Hello Wardster,

Thanks for that. I know Mojacar well. I usually stay in my van at Antonio's bar, on the beach. It's near the tower/castle 5km west of town.
Should be there in a couple of days.
Just done a great ride today. In the sun, in my shorts. Sierra de Espuña park. El Berro and up to the radar station. Highly recommend. Some great mountain biking here too.
Will check the Strava link.
After Mojacar I'll head to the Alpujarras.

The Big Ride feature was done with us, have a look at Gary's strava for the routes we use regularly. There's also Velefique and Calar Alto down nearer Almeria which is an awesome ride (also on Gary's strava).

Thanks for the Stava link. Today I just did a fantastic ride around Cabo de Gata. I can't believe I am still able to ride in shorts and t- shirt in December.
