Is this insurance quote reasonable?

I'm looking to insure my new 2014 TCR Composite 1. I already have 3rd party insurance through Cycling Ireland.

My existing house insurer has given me a quote of £50 to add it onto my policy. It'll covers theft from inside the house or elsewhere as long as it's locked. They have no stipulation of what kind of lock is required though, which I found strange. Also covers accidental damage and cover abroad up to 60 days a year.

Seems decent enough? The bike cost £1280, rrp £1600.

Separate bike insurance premium is typically 10% of the value of sum insured i.e. a £1000 bike will cost £100/yr.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Check the definitions section. They tend to use words like "abandonment" in the policy document and then define it as anywhere left locked for more than 8 hours. So that could be your mates locked garage over night.

Generally the add-on to house policies are the most flexible assuming they will cover the value. The specialist insurers tend to have more restrictions and cost more, but they will cover the higher cost bikes.
