Alright guys,

Looking for a little advice for someone who has never done any trail riding or road biking before, did some bmx in my youth. :D

Basically I am looking at a few bike options,I am kinda short 5'6 so not to sure if a 29r is the way to go even though my first choice bike in my budget is a Bizango. I have trawled through lots of reviews and looked at loads of bikes, most of the voodoo range ( like the hoodoo and bantu) did really fancy an older model rockhopper (2011/12) or the Khs alite 2000.There was even a pinnacle I liked the look of. I am now swamped with options and thought you guys could help me out.

I will be mainly riding in the highlands and often going to http://www.highlandwildcat.com/ so looking for a bike that will be decent for my size and £550 budget, and cope with going around these sort of trails without to many upgrades over the next few months.

There are a few places I want to try out anyone got any experience here? worth a visit?

The monster trails are worth a visit. I live 15 miles from Focahaber and have done the trails a few times this year. They are quite short and i usually string a few of then together. I usually do the gully monster first. The free ride trail looks pretty awesome, but I don't do the wooden structures. Ben Aigan i haven't done in a long time as in years (I've just returned to uk mountain biking after a 9 year absence) but it used to be pretty good.

If you're in the area PM me and I'll arrange for spin round the monster trails.

There are plenty of vids on YouTube on all of the above trails. That's what I usually do before visiting somewhere new.
  • Alright mate thanks for the info, I stay in Tain, but usually travel around most of the highlands, used to be a keen mountain boarder.Time for two wheels now. Had a look at some of the videos on youtube and some of the tails look at bit daunting, but desperate to try them out on a decent set up.

Sounds good man if I am through that way anytime soon I will let you give me a tour.

Golspie is good, not done the black, only red and a bit of the blue, but is supposed to be great, Carbisdale Castle (red/blue)/Balblair (fun blue/ fun but insane black) is good but remote, often the best trails are found by yourself...

Have a look at Rockrider bikes at Decathalon at that price point. Also Vitus bikes at Chain Reaction Cycles.
