I have just bought a 2009 Carrera Virtuso (blue/black) as a winter trainer. I am struggling to figure out what model the rear deraiileur is. It just says shimano on it but doesn't look like a 2300 or sora. It is long cage though. Hoping someone on here might have had one because I want to replace the cassette with something a bit more mountain friendly. Ideally a 28t or even 30t of the RD can handle it. Bike has a 36 compact crank not 34.

    I'd stick the bigger cassette on, adjust the B screw if required, and see if it works. If there's a problem, look for a replacement mech that will handle it.

    yeah will do - just wanted to find out if anyone has had this bike and made changes or if they knew what RD it was.

    so think it's a Shimano 2200 RD and site says max 26 teeth albeit they are usually a bit safe but think 30t will be way to big
