My current bike is a bit to big for me so I'm thinking of selling it. I was thinking of replacing it with a Dolan Preffissio Sram Apex having read good reviews about it. I'm planning on doing just club runs, sportives, midweek club league races and the odd time trial. Would the Dolan be ok? All the reviews say its just a winter bike..and I'm concerned about the weight of it.

    Hi,
i have one with Shimano 105 and its lovely.
My best bike is carbon and a fair bit lighter but i'm perfectly happy with how the Dolan rides.
A few on here have them and seem happy enough.
I did put a carbon seat post on to help dampen on rough roads but its not a necessity

you could always try it over winter and if it doesn't work out, sell it and get another frameset for the summer :?:

Heavy frame but nice and stiff so responds nicely. A bit harsh but can be made more comfortable with a carbon seatpost.

I have no idea what's going on here.

Why not try a Tifosi CK7?

built mine up with SRAM Apex last year and still love it
Oh, and added a Specialized pave carbon seatpost (the one with the elastomer "zerts" insert) which soaks up road buzz very well. Along with the 25mm tyres it's a fast but comfy ride
Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...

The Preffissio is a solid ride. It may be a bit on the heavy side, but the geometry is nice and racy which is quite difficult to find on a budget alu frame.

Haven't ridden one my self but I do have a couple of mates that have and they're pleased with them. Again they use them as their winter/training bike.
I have an alu Ribble doesn't have a carbon seat post but I have got a Specialized seat with Ti rails which helps smooth the ride. I find it more than a smooth enough ride.
  • Thanks guys. Nice Tifosi!. Is there any reason why you guys chose 105 over apex?
An older guy in our club was telling me yesterday that if your going to race; weight doesn't matter so much just as long as its cheap to replace and stiff? So maybe..
Its odd that nobody really uses them for racing since its <1kg heavier than the other carbon Dolan's and strong as a tank..

I would use mine for a race, but that's mainly because I can't afford a carbon bike - it's plenty stiff enough though. If there was any climbing involved I would probably be at a significant disadvantage as the frame is 1KG heavier than most carbon race frames.

I like mine, its stiff and the geometry doesn't feel significantly different to my carbon bike - it is heavy though. I mostly bought it as it has good clearance for guards and rack mounting as its a commuter/winter trainer and was only £80 for the frame. Not sure if I'd pick it over an equivalent offering from one of the big manufacturers though if I was buying new.
  • Hey, thanks for all the input. Decided against the Dolan, and managed to get a second hand wilier with 10 speed chorus instead. Super happy. :-)

Its a proper old school / late nineties type of bike, which I really like. :) Anyway, I will post some photos up before Christmas hopefully! Needs a few changes here and there.. ;)
