Find a Race help!

Hullo!

I am interested in doing some MTB races/ sportives, having just come from cycling on-road (where such stuff is common),
However I cannot find a central point for race adverts (the British Cycling website is a bit confusing) and was wondering which forum and magazine holds the most event ads? For south-west sub 50 mile events, not iconic long-distance rides

If you have a look on www.xcracer.com they have a calender function where you can look months in advance for mtb races. A race that you may consider which shouldnt be too far from you is the Merida Brass Monkeys race series which have 1 race in december and 2 in january left to go giving 1,2,3 and 4hr options http://www.gorrick.com/racing/endurobm/

Forgot this one as well http://www.southernxc.net/ This is the Southern mtb cross country series which starts up again in march i think.

Brass Monkey series is about the best winter series but a long way from South West.
Unfortunately the BC website is the most comprehensive race calendar. Its crap but you get used to it.

If you're near Haldon try the 2xc events http://www.2xc.org.uk/ although they won't be starting again till next year, for a Winter series have a look for the Soggy Bottom events around Plymouth, although I can't seem to find anything on this year's series

Not too far from Exeter there is the Goshawk Challenge in Wentwood Forest near Newport in March.

This year it was 2degC, wet and started snowing. It's a tough course but the sense of achievement at surviving it is good.
