Avid elixir 1 with loads of lever travel

I've recently fitted a set of Avid Elixir 1s and when I apply the brakes the lever is almost touching the handle bars? Any ideas how to sort this, is it just a case of the brakes need bleeding or something else??

use the lever reach adjust, make sure the pads are not moving the rotors, if they are you calipers are not fitted correctly. then let them bed in.

Some people I know set them up that way, as long as the lever isn't touching the bars there is no problem....Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

If you can see movement by the pads as opposed to a 'flexing' they are backing off the discs and that is causing the long lever, advancing should sort it.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
