I have been using this one for 28 months now in work. I'm the mechanic so it's been used between 5 and 7 days a week and it's still going now! Only 1 month ago did some of the black plastic crack around one of the nuts, but a bit of tape sorted it. Highly Recommended! :)

Random cheap ones lying around all over. Quite a few look just like that Halfords one.
My favourite was £1.99 on sale at Sainsburys of all places. As long as it has a few allen keys that's all you need.
I do carry a separate Parktools Mini Brute chain tool because those on multitools are a PITA..

    Thanks for the suggestion gents!

That looks great oxo, although I have a similar Park tool that's also going strong :)

I really after one with a decent chain tool as the allen head is rounded on my current device. Not a problem for home as I filed the sides of the bolt head so I could use an adjustable spanner, but would be a hassle when out on the bike.

It would probably make more sense to just buy a decent chain tool tbh. Like you say cooldad, the chain tools I've tried on multi-tools are hard work... but there's hundreds out there so surely they can't all be crap? I guess that should have been my original question.

Just saw your reply couldobetter, how do you find the chain tool?

Never used my big toolbox one after I got it. Tiny and easy to carry. Very fine thread so lots of torque.

Cheers. Mine is very similar, but uses an allen key rather than the bar... which is it's critical flaw. Hadn't spotted that Park one before so that would be something I'd consider since it would take up next to no space. The fact it's replaced your big one may have just sold it to me. Can you replace the pin on it if it gets bent?

    I've got this one:

Only used it once so far, but it did the job with minimal effort, no complaints.

i have Lezyne Rap-13 Multi Tool http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/gr/en/lezyne-rap-13-multi-tool/rp-prod36266 i got it because it had the chain tool and every thing i need in one small tool. but i find my self reaching for the free multi tool that was supplied to me with my bike from evans cycles. it just a basic tool with a few alens key philips and flat screwdriver, but it is less cumbersome to use then the lezyne multi tool.

For the multitool I bought this one recently from my LBS - cheap, simple, has the relevant tools and weighs less than the Bell one I was carrying round that had unnecessary tools on.

Multi tools are rubbish and the chain tools on them are the worst. Get one of these

    12592.jpg

and one of these but leave the Allen key part behind you dont need it.

That looks good. I like the extra pins in the handle.

    ...and these

I've rounded the allen head so wouldn't trust another one!

    Appreciate the suggestion though ;)

Yep, replacement pins available on CRC, but they are pretty tough. I've bent pins before, but so far not on that, in about five years.

Like many I have a Park allen key set, a chain splitter, a spoke key, tyre levers and a pocket knife - I am not bothered about a small amount of weight I want a tool that does what its supposed to.

I use a Lezyne multi tool with chain slipper, chain splitter works really well, as does everything else!

Topeak Hexus II if you want a decent chain breaker with pin to hold chain together when breaking.....

Though i always prefer to lug about a Topeak mini-18 as it's smaller and comes in a pouch you can connect to your belt. It has a chain breaker (and a tool for installing Shimano pins) but no pin to hold the chain in place while breaking it.

I carry a piece of old spoke bent with a closed hook one and and an open the other to hold the chain, simple, light, effective and free!
