Phone - talking sim or data sim?

I am thinking about doing a cycling trip in Morocco.
I am getting a new phone, the Samsung Mega. This is because I use the internet on the move more than I use a phone.

In Morocco I have two options (My UK sim would be too expensive to use), a phone sim or a data sim. Can I put a data sim in my new phone and then use skype if I need to make a call? This would allow me to use Google Earth with GPS, research info, hotels, book my return flight etc.
If I can't get data reception in a certain area I can then use my UK sim if I need to make an urgent call.

This year I bought a data sim in France. I had to buy a dongle (Hauwei wifi) because they said the sim would not work in my phone. Not sure if that means all phones or just the one I had.

I have heard that Morocco is very good for mobile phone reception because land lines are almost non-existant outside towns.

Try asking on a forum about phones.

This is a bike forum that doesnt even discuss bikes.

Try a question on norks if you want a better response.

Nah, good post... Just beyond our intellectual capacity to answer. Most of us can't figure out how a sundial works...

    Statistics say it must be.
90% of commuters are in Londinium.

That in itself may explain a lot.
