Town centre crits... why not at SkyRides?

Even without having heard from people who've organised town centre crits, I can imagine how difficult it is. However what's to stop race organisers from working with the Skyride organisers and getting circuits for a couple of hours for some 45 minute 2/3/4 and E/1/2 action before the main 'event'?

    Congrats - you just volunteered...
  • i think you answered your own question that it is not that easy to get the permission, barriers, insurance, sponsorship to hold town centre crits. We had 3 town crits in Guernsey this year after we did one last year for the Olympic torch it gained support and interest leading us to have more this year, hoping to have another next year,

Exactly - if the roads are already closed and barriered for the Skyrides, could BC/Sky not be persuaded to allow or even support a couple of races on the circuits and make it easier for local clubs to organise?

  • It may be _easier_ but it's still _a lot of work_. Why don't you give BC/your local club a call and see what you could do to add a crit to your local Sky Ride?

2nd cat but unfortunately I'm injured, looks like I have damage to my meniscus so I might not be racing next year!

Dropped my chain 4 laps from the finish in that race...well annoyed.
  • As a Skyride leader, I would not think the staging of racing at a Skyride event merges common aims. Skyrides are more about getting people into cycling or back on bikes after a lapse. Racing presents an extreme that may be too daunting. In MK we have even moved the event away from the city centre to cycle paths around a popular lake... This is because of the desire to focus on leisure riding rather than anything competitive.
