Hi guys

Does anyone have any opinion on this New Evo Rockhopper? Anyone got one or had a ride on one? I can find any reviews yet anywhere. They are calling it a Trail Bike that is a bit more robust than the normal rockhopper, looks interesting and just wanted some other thoughts on it. It's cycle to work so looking for a really good hard tail from Evans around £1000 ish.

Cheers

For it's price it has some cheap and not very good components. There are bikes available for half the price with better brakes and fork.
  • Ohh not the reply I was after! I'm more of a rider than someone who knows much about the latest bike specs, I do try and keep up to date with what is going on. The other choices might be the Scott scale 960 or cannondale trail SL 2. If you could elaborate on the brake and fork spec I would be very grateful. The bike will be used every week for general XC riding in the South of the UK and once a month to the Welsh Trail Centers. If anyone is familiar with the Evans Stock for around the 1K mark I would be glad to hear opionion.

Evans isn't the best place for value. If you could buy from Halfords or Decathlon you will get a better bike for a lot less money.
  • I have £1000 voucher with Ride to Work and it can only be used with Evans no other option is available.

Unless you're spending more than £4000, which you're not, avoid cannondales at all cost, got my GF one at one point, waste of money

The Pinnacle Iroko 2013 models they have seem to have an alright spec for the cash at Evans.

The best thing to do is test ride the bikes you are interested in. While spec is part of the reason you would buy a bike more important is the way it rides and looks, unless it is very, very over priced. You could buy a bike from Halfords with a good spec at a good price and hate riding it which is a waste of money. Also Halfords are very hit and miss with the quality of their bike assembly and after care.

I bought my Specialised Carve after test riding as it just felt right, I liked the look of it and it had all that I wanted from an XC mountain bike. Done a lot miles on it since and still keen to do more. Bought it from a good local bike shop which means you pay more than Halfords but it was assembled well and they have answered any questions I have had since. Best not to just think of the bike like a TV set and purely buy based on spec's and price ;)

The problem with the cheap components is that they are very heavy and don't last.
