After a bit of advice please, Im looking at the following combination, will these be suitable for general xc riding, are they a good combination and will the cleats already be included with the shoe

Personal choice but I prefer a buckle fastener. I've used shaimano M087 for a few years and they still feel tight and secure
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shim ... -prod69960 might be worth looking at.
As for pedals, M520s all the way, no need to pay more. The cleats should come with the pedals0 -
The XTs are lighter, so if such things bother you then they're a worthwhile upgrade over the M520s.
Personally agree that a ratchet fastener is nice, but the ones in that link are more than double the price! Even if you buy those shoes and M520 pedals you'll still be a good chunk more expensive.
Edit: and CRC are out of stock of virtually all the common sizes.0 -
+1 to ratchet fasteners
You might find these cheaper but they are a good choice for little more than XC30's

Pedal wise sitting between the M520 and the XT's are M540 pretty much the same as a 520 but a fraction lighter and easier to service like the XT's0 -

I have the XTR pedals, and I'm very pleased with them. Much better power transfer than the old M505's.
The cleats will be included - but with the pedals, not the shoes.0 -

er, 79.99 versus 48.990 -
Oh yeah, had it as 39.99 in my head. Maths fail.0

I use Xt trail pedals and find them far better than the standard Xt ones, bigger platform, bit more protection for the mechanism and dead easy to clip into for a minimal weight increase. I've used both styles of Xt and much, much prefer the trails

Shimano's Am45 shoes are excellent as well, I have the older version and they're fantastic, very weather proof and not as uncomfortable to walk in as some of the more disco slipper style shoes.

Trail pedals are pointless. IMHO of course.0

Sorry to hijack but Im also looking at the above combination and it seemed pointless to start a new thread
If I were to buy the above, would I also need to get seperate cleats or is everything I need included in the two items?
Cheers0 -
Cleats come with Shimano pedals.0

Thanks for that,Will take advantage of the CRC sale now0
