Agreed, but they do pay for it. However, since installing appropriate proprietary software all is sweetness lightNeil

Bobbinogs, It's when the ads start spoiling the experience of the end user. There is a balance to be met. If users go elsewhere because of over intrusive ads spoiling the sites operation everybody losesNeil

What ads, I can't see any, but then I don't use the internet :idea:0
-
Usually, I can zoom in on my iPad, and they're gone. But sometimes they take over the posts in a thread.
For example: I can only read as far as " There is a balance" in Wolferkins post
I'm not against ad's on a site, but it still has to be usable0 -
Superstition sets the whole world in flames; philosophy quenches them.

OT, There are loads of similar threads about this.
Find them , read them and draw you own conclusions.
One thing is for sure, the Ads are not going away.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -

One things for sure though nothing will be done as the Mods couldn't care less, it's not their job, they said so in one of the other threads earlier "Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You can get ad blockers for any browsers these days. You don't have to see the ads.0

Wot he said. it is seriously annoying and, if it were a commercial site, would be out of business in no time. IMV, it is an incompetent way of building an website.I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks0 -

Nothing will be done about them. Obviously we are not even a consideration.0

Any muppet can install a browser or browser add-on to their phone or iPad or computer that will hide all ads completely.
Any company or forum operator who doesn't know this deserves what they get.
On the other hand, if they used their brains and implemented advertising in such a way that we did not go out of our way to avoid it, then they might get a real return.
I am active of a forum for a different pastime and the mods there (who likewise are working for an industry publication) quickly realised their 2000 or so concurrent users were voting with their feet to alternative places. They made the adverts smaller and without overlays. They also took them away completely for registered users that allowed direct email marketing. Most of us decided we would rather have unobtrusive ads than spam email so we now accept the adverts. I have even bought something as the result of one of them!0 -

Can I add my name to the 'disgruntled' list please"You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0 -
Perhaps the way forward would actually be a list, in ONE thread.
Explain politely that those listed are using ad blockers due to the intrusive nature of the ads, so therefore not seeing then at all, and that if the forum Web team could make then less annoying, people may use the site without blocking software.
If they still do nothing about, then the site deserves to lose some of its referral revenue/members.0 -
Check out DaveL's advice in discuss the website with the team if you have problems on iPad, I just followed his advice and no more bloody adverts"Arran, you are like the Tony Benn of smut. You have never diluted your depravity and always stand by your beliefs. You have my respect sir and your wife my pity"

To be fair it was just a pain, but a big tyre taking over the screen is taking the pisch. Not the seen the like on other forums.Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori0

You miss the point. This is a commercial site and the commercial model is to make the forums and all the helpful information free and generate revenues by advertising. A bit like ITV.
That said do the following:
Press and hold <CTRL>, roll your mouse wheel forward until the edges of the forum disappear and all you have are the sides of the postings. All edge advertising will be gone.
Be patiwent when loading new pages, open in a new tab (by pressing the scroll wheel) is best as that way the thread opens in a new tab whilst you are reading another thread. By the time you move to the new tab the adverts have settled and it wont move around.
As for the big tyre, nothing you can do abou that.0 -
And just as I read this post the tyre appears. Just ruins a good experience.0

The ads are making it intolerable, just wanted to add my name to the list.
Viewing on a ipad is dire, the bet fair bear advert being the worst offender.0 -
i'm also reaching the point of starting to avoid using the site. fully appreciate the need to generate some income from the site, but there is better way to do this surely than making the site like it is now. the frequent flashes of adverts changing, screen moving around when you try and click boxes, pop ups taking over the screen for adverts.

Well I have reluctantly installed abl0cker plus and I must say it is a massive improvement.
Only trouble is I now get no adverts on any webpage that I open.
How will I know what to buy??
ETA I found the button that deactivates it for your chosen websites 8)"You really think you can burn off sugar with exercise?" downhill paul0
