Pastey's emergency stand in Tarmac Pro ......

Due to me finding a crack in my Titanium Cube I found myself needing a stand in bike until the situation gets resolved and also having just sold my Titus Solera. Didn't want to spend a fortune so off to Ebay I went. Due to some timely late night browsing I found this little beauty as a "Buy it now" , 2 days later the seller dropped it off for me. It's a 2008 Specialized Tarmac Pro Double in stunning condition, only changes from original spec are the tires, bar tape and a pair of brand new Deore Xt trail pedals the seller had just fitted. As I have a few bits and bobs knocking about I have made a few changes. Firstly I change the fitted Roval Fusee Star wheels for the Alex Scandium/Carbon wheels from my poorly Cube as I have just got new wheels for the Cube, the wheels have been converted to tubeless and roll on Schwalbe Ultremo ZX tubeless tires, holding the wheels in place are a pair of Dura-Ace 9000 series skewers. Second change was swapping the Ultegra brake calipers for a set of black cnc'd Quest calipers, lighter and stiffer than the Ultegra's. Next change was swapping the S-Works stem for a Time Ulteam carbon stem, again lighter and it seems to suit the bike. The fitted Toupe saddle had a crack in it so was unusable (Can't complain for the money I paid for the bike) So I have fitted a Selle Italia SLS Carbonio kit, although this is temporary as I have a nice red/white Prologo saddle on it's way. Xt pedals have been exchanged for a pair of stainless Bebops. Bar tape and cables are being changed to much nicer colour coded items and then that will be it. This will be my winter training bike. Again I have to mention the condition this bike is in for it's age. The best bit of all is that the bike only cost me £450 !!!!! and I have sold the Roval wheels it came with for £170 so it looks like one of my better bargains. Will update pics when the new cables, saddle and bar tape is fitted.

Now those wheels look a lot classier on that bike than the Cube0

Is it going to be repairable? Surely Ti can't be too hard to repair?0 -

Not quite the same
I love when people pull this move, can't back up their ideas so just say 'it's not the same'. It's the bloody same, both parts made by time on other bikes not made by time.0 -
Naah, there is a difference. Stems and seatposts made by cycle manufacturers tend to look wrong on bikes made by other bike manufacturers - probably because for the most part it makes no difference what eg stem you use so why use one made by an alternative bike manufacturer; if you like the stem brand so much why didn't you buy the entire bike from that manufacturer? Pedals are much more down what works for you personally. That said, I couldn't bring myself to use Shimano pedals on my Look but then I'd happily use Look pedals on my Ribble.
Deda is a bit different - I think they count for more as a manufacturer of finishing kit than a bike brand so again, a Deda stem looks fine on any bike.Faster than a tent.......0 -
Personally I think the Time stem is a good match for the bike, It's lighter than the factory fitted item, also feels stiffer and mirrors the colour of the frame to some extent. Of course we all have our own opinions.Viner Salviati

Here is the bike with new bar tape and cables. Bar tape is Planet X 2 tone with a layer of non overlapping standard cork tape underneath for extra padding. Cables are Sram Slickwire with sealed Jagwire ferrules and Middleburn oilers. Excuse bad pics.

Decided to lighten the bike with a few changes. Swapped the wheels for my lighter set of Stans Alpha 400's on American Classic hubs with Dt Revolution spokes and brass nipples, tires are Bontrager R3 tubeless ready with Stans fluid inside. Skewers are PZ racing bolt on's. The saddle and post have been swapped for a much lighter combo of a Selle Italia carbon railed SLR team Edition and an Exotic Cycles carbon post with Ti bolts. Pedals are my trusty Speedplay X1 titanium's . I have also included a pic of Superstar Components new Garmin mount which for £8.99 (Price gone up to £10.99 since purchase) is a major bargain, very adjustable, well made and holds my Garmin very well. Total weight of bike stands aa pictured, 15.7lbs, not too bad considering its not the lightest carbon frame out there.
