will a compact front mech work with a triple shifter?

following an accident last week I am trying to get all the best bits from my bikes onto the two remaining frames to make the bet of a bad situation.
I have a compact 105 front mech but a triple left shifter, will these work together? based on no real science, just a huntch, it seems like it should as the shifter will determine how far it moves?

yes it'll work fine - double front mechs are among the most tolerant moving parts on the bike
when setting up, adjust the cable tension so that shifting up to the big ring occurs on the middle-highest stroke of the shifter (rather than on granny ring to middle ring)my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Thanks, and thanks for the tip, i'll give it a go laterwww.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0
