Yep. I never really watch it but it was on last night and I couldn't understand a word of it. It's lazy writing in science fiction as they think they can get away with nonsense by saying 'ah but it's science fiction'.

Leave it to the zit faced anorak wearing geeks I reckon.
  • I'm p1ssed off with all the BBC's pandering to the 50th birthday carp.

It spent many of those 50 years being ridiculed for dodgy sets and plots, had a lengthy forced sabbatical when the dodgy sets and plots were beyond a joke, suffered numerous failed attempts to bring it back before eventually being brought back once CGI was as cheap as the actors with scripts that are lauded as genius when they're illogical and juvenile pap.

They obviously had fun with this, and there were quite a few good moments, but all strung together with a pretty random plot, and the solution to the big problem didn't make a lot of sense. Nice turns by John Hurt and Billie Piper. Worth it for the appearance by
at the end, and the joke about Americans and history. For the thinking man's Dr Who anniversary see:

    and

    The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot

Or watch the 'Dalek' episode (skipping the irritating 4:20 intro they've nailed to the front):

I find myself in full agreement with Billy. This has happened several times recently. Has there been a tear in the space time continuum ?

Pretty much my take on things. Given that Moffett can produce some crackers ("Blink" and the Sherlock reboot) I expected more, and was left feeling disappointed.

"An Adventure in Space and Time" was a delight and prompted me to revisit "An Unearthly Child" which to my surprise held up very well after all these years.

Edit to include update: Just watched it again. A decent and enjoyable enough tale but I think I was expecting more based on the hype.

Just watched it on iplayer. Not too bad, but of course it's never going to live up to the ridiculous hype that it's been getting. Also, the theme music at the end had got rid of that string section - I really hope this carries on into the new series.

Ahhh shucks, are you nay sayers telling me the science doesn't hold water? Darn it.

FFs, I'm no sci-fi geek but it was an enjoyable romp with some funny moments and non-sensical science. The kids enjoyed it, I laughed and enjoyed it too.

Big anniversary programmes are always overhyped but I though this delivered what it needed to. Far better than all the big budget christmas specials the Beeb used to do for their sitcoms. Those always involved an overseas setting and a really contrived story. Admittedly this included a really contrived story but that's only to be expected.

Exactly, it is for kids, and kids seem to have loved it, if the odd adult liked it here and there then fine. I expect we wouldn't have a critique if it was of 'Day of the Tellytubbies'.

Indeed - good fun and very watchable. I enjoyed An Adventure In Space & Time as well, but then with Mark Gatiss taking care of the script, it was unlikely to be a let-down. David Bradley was very well cast as Hartnell, too.

I don't really want to knock it too much, but after the excellent 'Night of the Doctor' mini episode they showed a few days before:

we might have hoped for a bit less Blackadder and a bit more Time War.
